We now have computer programs that allow engineers to simulate, analyze, and optimize the grounding systems of distribution substations. These programs are very powerful, but, without a good understanding of the mutual relationship between the relevant parameters of a complex grounding system, the engineers using these programs can easily make serous errors in their designs procedures. This book helps to prevent these errors. It gives readers a basic understanding of the modeling characteristics of the major components of a complex grounding system. One by one, the author develops and analyses each component as a stand-alone element, then puts them all together and takes into consideration their mutual disposition, or the so called proximity effect. This is the first book enabling making the analysis of the practically most complex grounding systems typical for HV substations located in urban areas by using relatively simple mathematical operations, and without using modern computers. Since the presented methods enable solving the problems more complex than the ones solvable by using National, IEC and/or IEEE standards, this book can be considered as an appendix to these standards. Develops General Equations of Lumped Parameter Ladder CircuitsDevelops the analytical expression for determination of ground fault current distribution for a fault anywhere along a cable lineDevelops the measurement and analytical methods for determination of actual ground fault current distribution for high-voltage substations located in urban areasDevelops the analytical procedure for determination of the critical ground fault position for faults appearing in outgoing transmission linesDevelops the analytical method for determination the relevant parameters of the grounding systems spontaneously formed in urban and suburban areasDevelops the measurement and analytical methods for determination of the inductive influence of power lines passing through urban areas on nearby metal pipelines, Tel. circuits, cable TV, etc.Defines testing procedure for correct evaluation of grounding systems of substations located in urban areas INDICE: I.
