The book describes some of the most significant developments produced in recent years in the field of epoxy polymers. The first section gives general concepts of the synthesis and properties of these polymers and serves as a basis for the reading of the subsequent chapters. The second section includes chaptersdescribing new types of epoxy polymers recently commercialized or no yet present in the market: thermoplastic epoxies, microgels and ‘green’ epoxies (either recyclable or produced from bio-sources). The third section includes chapters related to the capacity of generating controlled nanostructures in epoxy-based materials. These include nanostructures generated by the use of incompatible monomers or by incorporation of block copolymers, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), carbon nanotubes, intercalated or exfoliated clays, etc. Afourth section is devoted to innovations in epoxy-based materials such as adhesives, coatings, pre-pregs (pre-impregnated fibers for composites), structural foams, injection-molded products and epoxies that can self-repair (self-healing epoxies). Some concluding remarks and perspectives are discussed in a short final section.
