This edited volume explores the history of student life throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Since the 1980s, historians have expanded the reach of scholarship on the history of student life to include various groups of underrepresented students, students at regional institutions, and other strands of the student experience. Further, some of the recent scholarship in the history of student life has looked more deeply at the final decades of the twentieth and even extended the inquiry into the twenty-first century. Collectively, these historians portray the diversity of student experiences at the array of institutions that comprise campus life, but there is not a single volume capturing updated historical understandings of being a college student. Chapter authors examine multiple aspects of student life  including the experiences of black, latino, and LGBTQ students; student life at state normal schools and their successors, regional colleges and universities; student life at community colleges; and new interpretations of fraternity and sorority life, this anthology brings together recent scholarship on the history of student life in a single volume.
