Software projects come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They range frompure software projects which operate wholly within a commercial computer/operating system environment, to those that operate in a commercial computer/operating system environment and interface with a wide variety of external computers and software applications for the purposes of monitoring and controlling those computers and applications, to embedded environments in which they operate as permanently or semi-permanently installed software, usually with custom designed hardware. This book will discuss the applications of project management techniques to the development of software, and sometimes to hardware, in all of these environments.
