This book provides a thorough and detailed discussion of univariate toleranceintervals and multivariate tolerance regions. In the univariate case, the book discusses the univariate normal distribution, the univariate regression model, mixed and random effects models, gamma, Weibull and exponential distributions, non-parametric tolerance intervals, and Bayes procedures. The constructionof simultaneous tolerance intervals is addressed wherever appropriate. In themultivariate case, the book addresses the multivariate normal distribution and the multivariate regression model. The multivariate calibration problem is also addressed. Very often, the computation of tolerance factors is facilitatedby various approximations. Such approximations are discussed in detail, alongwith the necessary numerical results to assess their accuracy. In the contextof mixed and random effects models, the approach based on generalized confidence intervals is used rather extensively. The book addresses the various approximations available for different tolerance interval problems and also discusses comparisons among the different approximations, making recommendations regarding the choice of the approximation for practical use. When it comes to random or mixed effects models, the book provides procedures for the balanced as well as the unbalanced data situations. Furthermore, for situations where the tolerance intervals have to be numerically obtained, the book includes extensive tables providing the necessary tolerance factors for various combinations ofthe sample size, content, and confidence level.
