This book will focus on cultures living in what is known as the Four Corners region of the United States, which is the area where Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico meet. From the late Pueblo I through the end of the Pueblo II period (AD 850-1150) a vast system of great houses spread throughout the San Juan Basin. Beginning between AD 850 and 900 in Chaco Canyon in the heart of the San Juan Basin three large great houses were constructed, Pueblo Bonito, Una Vida, and Peñasco Blanco (Windes and Ford 1996, 300).
