On the first part of the book discuss about the evolution of plant starting from a single photosynthetic cell to the highest category like Gymnosperms and Angiosperms with special attention on the evolution of the breeding system. The approach of the transitions of each phase was done with support of geological and molecular data. Still, special attention is done for the specialization of the reproductive systems, like, evolution of unisexuality (dioecy and monoecy), evolution of self-incompatibility, selfing fertilization and mixed mating system pointing at the end the evolutionary implications. On the last part it tells about the biology and genetics of the reproductive system were we discuss the strategies that modern plants use in asexual reproduction (vegetative and apomictic reproduction) and sexual reproduction. In the sexual reproduction, special attention is done for gametogenesis, the genetic control of reproductive organs, systems that promote outcrossing, selfing and mixed mating system. All these topics are discussed using genetic and molecular approach.
