Mental Health as Public Health: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Ethics of Prevention, Volume 2 in the Developments in Neuroethics and Bioethics Serial, brings the most recent advances and information on Neuroethics and Bioethics. In recent years there has been increased recognition of the global burden of mental disorder, which in turn has led to the expansion of preventive initiatives at the community and population level. The application of such public health approaches to mental health, however, raises a number of ethical questions. The aim of this collection is to address these newly emerging issues, with special attention to the principle of prevention and the moral particularities of mental health. Compared to other public health initiatives, those directed towards mental health are relatively new and have yet to receive sustained ethical analysis. This makes this edited volume the first to highlight the distinctive ethical issues surrounding public mental health, such as stigma, capacity, and confidentialityThe individual chapters contain cutting-edge, original research by an interdisciplinary collection of authors, including experts in public health ethics, psychiatric ethics, and global mental healthThe focus is on areas of mental disability where the empirical research is most extensive, thus providing an evidence-based grounding for ethical analysis INDICE: 1.
